5 steps guide to biological nurturing position

Biological nurturing or laid back nursing position with its simplicity can ensure a good latch and solve various breastfeeding problems.

When done right, this position triggers a baby’s natural feeding reflexes and helps him to take a good mouthful of breast while feeling very stable on the mother’s body.

Ok, ready? Here’s how to master a perfect biological nurturing position:

  1. Find a comfortable sofa or a couch where you can lie back.
  2. Place your baby on your stomach.
  3. Your baby’s belly should touch yours and his head should be at the level of your breasts.
  4. Once your baby is positioned well; he will begin to smell and feel his way to your nipple and move his head back and forth, opening his mouth wide to latch on. It’s purely instinctive.
  5. You can, if needed, hold and support his body and lead him or just snuggle and enjoy!

Here’s a wonderful video demonstrates a mother holding her baby in a semi-reclining position. The clip describes how to spot early feeding cues and shows baby feeding comfortably on his tummy (in the “prone” position).
