Soothe with a pacifier

If you’re wondering if you should use pacifiers or not. You won’t be able to find a simple answer.

This is a tough one. As with most things related to newborns the advice on dummies or pacifiers is quite confusing.

Some parents swear by it. Studies claim that it might help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

One thing to be aware of is that they can hide your baby’s hunger signs and may reduce your milk production. In the early weeks it’s really important to nurse often and ensure all sucking is at the breast to establish and maintain good milk production. 

So it’s wise to not use a pacifier as a first line of defense.
