Hand expressing in 5 simple steps

Hand expressing is a simple but highly useful skill. It can relieve breast fullness, stimulate milk production and be a much needed back up in situations where you may not have access to your electric pump.

Here’s how can master the skill of hand expressing in no time:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Sit comfortably and gently massage your breasts with your hands and fingertips
  3. Make a C shape with your hands around your areola (the dark area around your nipple)
  4. Gently press yoru fingers and thumb towards your chest.
  5. Firmly compress your breasts between fingers and thumb.

And simply continue to press, compress and release for about 20 – 30 minutes. After expressing, all areas of the breast should feel soft.
